Luka Modrić, captain of the Croatian national football team and widely regarded as the greatest Croatian footballer of all time, is stepping into a new spotlight — the theatre.

A new stage production titled “Luka Modrić: Moja igra” (My Game) will bring Modrić’s life to audiences from a fresh, dramatic perspective.

Directed by Arija Rizvić, the play is a collaboration between the Croatian Football Federation and Boss Teatar.

The script, written by Valentina and Luka Mavretić, dives deep into the personal and emotional journey of the football legend.

The play stars Matej Đurđević, Gloria Dubelj and Denis Bosak in the lead roles. It offers a moving portrayal of Modrić’s rise from humble beginnings to global stardom, focusing not only on his footballing achievements but also on his personal struggles and triumphs.

“Everyone knows Luka as the captain, the football genius and maestro,” said director Arija Rizvić.

“But he is also a son, father, husband, grandson, and brother. Through this play, we wanted to bring all those sides of Luka to life and give the audience a deeper look at the experiences — both on and off the pitch — that shaped him into the admired figure he is today. For me, he is the perfect dramatic hero, and it was a privilege to take on this project.”

The production reveals the people behind his success, the obstacles he faced, and the resilience he showed to overcome them.

In an era where young people often dream of instant fame, Modrić’s story is a powerful reminder that the greatest achievements are earned through perseverance and hard work.

As Luka himself has often said: “The best things never come easy.”

Although centred around football, Moja igra delivers universal messages about growing up, family, sacrifice and success — themes that will resonate with audiences of all ages, especially children and young people who look up to Modrić as a role model.
