Vukovar has added a wonderful new feature to its beloved park-forest, Adica.
The city has officially opened a brand new wooden walkway stretching over 1.1 kilometres, offering both locals and tourists a peaceful escape into nature.
The new promenade was formally opened by Vukovar’s mayor, Ivan Penava, who expressed his delight at the growing popularity of the area.

“This is something Vukovar has never had before. The walkway has already become a favourite with residents, and I’m proud to see it so well used,” said Penava.
The wooden walkway runs from the end of Ulica 204. vukovarske brigade all the way to the Dobra Voda spring. It also branches off towards both banks of the Vuka River and future recreational spots, including a planned adrenaline park.

Built on 278 concrete pillars and made with nearly 500 cubic metres of high-quality Slavonian oak, the walkway is both solid and scenic.
One of its most eye-catching features is its lighting – 98 lamps light up the walkway directly, with an additional 90 spotlights illuminating surrounding trees, creating a magical night-time atmosphere.

Visitors will also find 20 educational boards along the way, offering interesting facts about the local plant and animal life.
The entire project cost €2.7 million and was made possible through a combination of funding sources. Over €967,000 came from European Union funds, €1.16 million through the Ministry of Regional Development, and more than €530,000 via the Vukovar Reconstruction and Development Fund.

Igor Antolović, head of the city’s project department and the man who led the initiative, highlighted that the redevelopment of Adica is part of Vukovar’s broader regeneration plan for war-affected towns.
He praised the contractors for completing the work efficiently and to a high standard.
“This is a favourite spot for many Vukovar residents, and we’ve now made it even more inviting,” said Antolović. “With the adrenaline park on the way, this area is on its way to becoming a full revitalised leisure zone.”

The new walkway has also connected older trails previously built by Hrvatske vode, linking the city centre with other parts of the riverside.
Once the remaining waterworks are completed, the full beauty of the project will come to life – with some sections expected to sit just above the water.
Mayor Penava also reminded visitors to treat the natural surroundings with care. “Nature is essential to our everyday lives. Let’s enjoy this space and look after it,” he said.
